On the 9th July 2014 I became a father. Our beautiful, creative daughter, Grace was born and along with her entrance to the world came a new place of inspiration. Even before she was born, my feelings and thoughts were expressed musically through a piece called “Crossroads Of New Beginnings” which was about the new journey that Kate and I were about to embark on. I also wrote 2 other pieces of music, one for a girl and one for a boy. “Grace” was the eventual name of one of these and the other is called “The Unused Name”! All three of these tracks can be found on my second album, “A Busy Couple Of Years” alongside one other piece called “Grace's Lullaby” which was written a few months after she was born.
Amber joined our little family on the 7th August 2017 and she also received her very own piece along with another unused name piece! I haven't released these pieces yet but I intend to go back through my compositions to revisit them.
Since these initial pieces though, I've created a few others. These pieces probably reflect my daughter's personalities a bit better now then the original pieces as I have come to know their characters more.
Grace is creative, enjoys singing and telling stories and very social and very loud! She is however, a bit of an introvert and likes to keep her skills to herself a bit more. I wrote a piece for her called “Grace Dancing” when she was about 3 years old after watching her dance to “Let It Go” from Frozen. There was a sweet elegance peppered with a few stumbles and I created an impressionistic piece to fall in and out of different tempi. I like to think that it could be painted with watercolours.
Amber is inquisitive, caring, logical and a little bit wild! Also very loud! She's a little bit more of an extrovert and is happy to show off a little bit. Not too over the top but a bit more so than Grace. “Amber Dancing” is a uplifting, lilting piece with a hidden stamping middle section to reflect her boisterous side! Amber is more likely to dance around these days rather then Grace and likes to listen to me play the piano and join in.
I'm sure I will add more pieces to the girls collections over the coming years. I can often come up with a happy tune after a day out as a family but these often come across a bit more silly and mischievous for me to want to release them! Maybe one day.
I look forward to more inspiration from my two baby girls in the future. Love you both so much, now and forever.
